ByKOLLES Racing obtained important insights regarding the vehicle's development and the tyres at the first race of the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season. Oliver Webb (GB), Simon Trummer (CH) and James Rossiter (GB) finished the 6-hour race at Silverstone (GB) third, claiming a podium finish in the LMP1 Private Teams category.
“The weekend was very interesting and provided a lot of important insights which will definitely help us in our preparations for the highlight of the season at Le Mans,” says Boris Bermes, ByKOLLES Director of Racing Operations. “Due to the changeable conditions throughout the weekend, we had a chance to collaborate with our new tyre partner Dunlop in particular and test all available options. Our good work was rewarded with the pole position in our category. Unfortunately, we lost ground early in the race due to a suspension failure. Otherwise, we could have done even better. Finishing the race is particularly important for us. The team did a perfect job, and the drivers provided us with extensive feedback, which we will take into account in the further development of our CLM P1/01 AER. At Silverstone, our car had a new front end which worked great. We will take further steps over the next few weeks.”
James Rossiter (GB) will join ByKOLLES RACING for the first two races of the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). The experienced Brit will replace regular driver Pierre Kaffer (D), who is not available due to other racing commitments, for the World Championship rounds at Silverstone (GB) and Spa-Francorchamps (B).
“Pierre has other contractual racing duties. Therefore, we had to look for an adequate replacement for the first two races - and we found it in James Rossiter. We know James very well from the past; he was racing in past for us in the LMP 1 and LMP2 classes,” says Boris Bermes, ByKOLLES Racing Director of Operations. “James is technically competent and a very fast driver. Together with Simon Trummer and Oliver Webb he will make a strong driver line-up, and they will be able to fight for good results despite the strong competition in the WEC. Pierre Kaffer will be back at the wheel for the 24 h race in Le Mans.”
Former European Le Mans Series Champion, Oliver Webb, will be making his public LMP1 debut for ByKOLLES Racing today, as the 2016 FIA WEC season kicks off this weekend with the Prologue at Circuit Paul Ricard in France for the official pre-season test.
“This is the first opportunity to showcase what I can do for the team in terms of development work on the CLM P1/01”, said the 24-year-old Briton after his arrival at the former Grand Prix track. “We will have some new promising parts on the car and I hope that we can make the next significant steps as we are aiming to win the LMP1 privateer class this year, and of course the 24 Hours at Le Mans.”
ByKOLLES Racing completes the driver line-up for the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season: Oliver Webb (GB) will share the CLM P1/01 with Simon Trummer (CH) and Pierre Kaffer (D).
“With the signing of Oliver Webb our desired driver line-up for the 2016 WEC season is now complete,” says Boris Bermes, ByKOLLES Director of Racing Operations. “Oliver is a young and fast sports car driver, who was able to gain a lot of experience in the past few years. His achievements in endurance racing speak for themselves. We have been watching his career for a long time and were already impressed back when he was in single-seater open-wheel racing. I am convinced that Oliver will be a great asset for our team. He fits perfectly with his new team-mates in terms of character and his approach and will support the team throughout the 2016 season to systematically continue the progress from last year.”
